Switch to Obadh from the Input menu, the Globe key or Control-Space. Keep your other keyboards alongside it.

Install Obadh on your Mac
- Download and open
Obadh.dmg, then double-click Install Obadh. - Click Get Started, then Add Obadh. Enter your Mac’s password when the installer asks.
- When macOS asks to enable বাংলা (অবাধ), click Allow.
- Choose Obadh from the Input menu, or switch with the Globe key or Control-Space. Open a text field and start typing.
How to type Bangla on a Mac
With Obadh selected, type ami banglay likhchi to write আমি বাংলায় লিখছি. It is phonetic typing: you enter the sounds with Roman letters, and Obadh composes the Bangla script. This is transliteration, not English-to-Bengali translation.

If you already use Avro or another keyboard
Obadh is an independent input method with its own engine. Phonetic typing will feel familiar to Avro users, but some spellings differ. Read the scheme differences rather than assuming every key combination is identical.
You do not need to remove another input source to try it. If you prefer a fixed layout, keep using that layout and switch to Obadh when you want phonetic typing. The keyboard selection FAQ explains what to consider.
Compatibility and updates
Obadh requires macOS 15 or later and supports both Apple silicon and Intel Macs. It installs as a system input source, so you type directly into compatible apps instead of copying text from a separate editor.
For an update, download the newer disk image and run Install Obadh again. The same installer has an Uninstall option. Version history and checksums are available in the Mac releases.
